TRUTH CHECK

With just 20 days until Cedar Rapids votes for a new mayor, one candidate has hit the airwaves with the first TV ad of the campaign.

Ron Corbetts ad is running right now...but is he giving you the truth?

We look into the promises, the accusations, and the claims and put them through a truth check.

Ron Corbett is the first to air TV ads, touting a promise to buy local, build local and employ local.

6 million dollars has gone to out of state consultants, Corbett claims.

This is true. From bills for recovery plans from Sasaki and JLG to FEMA consultants like Globe Midwest and Base Tactical.

Or how about this claim?

$2.8 million went to a new York consulting firm, Corbett says in the ad.

That is true as well. Adjusters International based in Utica New York has actually received at least 3.9 million for disaster recovery services.

City leaders say the consultants will maximize the amount of money FEMA will give to the city for recovery. They say it's an investment worth making that could save tax payers tens of millions of dollars over the course of rebuilding.
