Comment: My sister was killed April 15, 2009 in Wisconsin by an 18 year old girl. Records show her phone was in use 2 minutes before the 911 call went out. My sister was struck and killed while walking along the road. est. speed of car was 70. She received a fine of less than $200. My niece is working deligently with FocusDriven to ban all cell phone usage while driving. by Tracy
Comment: Why don't they also ban driving and doing a news report at the same time. Apparently you need a reminder that driving should have your full attention. Please change your approach. by Paul
Comment: Statistics show that texting while driving is causing accidents and death. Testing actual drivers has shown that talking on a cell phone while driving, even with headphones is equivalent to driving drunk, and texting while driving involves twice as much risk as talking on a cell phone while driving. The bill should include using a cell phone while your vehicle is moving. In case of emergency the driver has the option of pulling over, stopping, and then talking or texting a message. by Patricia
Comment: This will no doubt save lives!!! by Cathy
Comment: Yes, I believe that there should be a ban on texting. But is that the most important law to be passed with our economy the way it is?? Let's spend our efforts to get people back to work! As for what is important. Do you really think a Crib recall warrants being aired at the end of your newscast and not the start of it??? by Sue
Comment: Def don't ban reading one. That could also apply to pagers, PCs in car, official vehicles etc as well. We use technology now to warn us of traffic hazards, weather alerts and more. This needs more discussion before a quick decision. by Rich
Comment: it is to dangerous by Douglas
Comment: It's a step in the right direction but should be expanded to include all cell phone use while driving. Statistics show cell phone users are 4 times more likely to have an accident than non-users, about the same as an impaired driver. by Ken
Comment: The state law maker who doesn't think government should get involved either doesn't understand the danger or does it himself so doesn't want it banned. I'd love to see them ban texting and even using phones. by Vicki
Comment: A person should keep their hands on the wheel while driving no matter what. by Doug
Comment: They should even go a lot farther, no talking on cells while driving, you see to many people not paying any attention to their driving by Donna
Comment: Your stories on deputies stretched thin and state trooper shortage, we don't need another law that should be commen sense. Unfortunately, if they make that law, what about people that watch DVD's, read the paper & books, maps, mess with their GPS, eat meals, drink, put on makeup, have dogs ride on their laps, operate computers, eat bowls of cereal all while driving. I've seen all the above. Maybe the law should state, if youre in an accident doing any of the above, you will be arrested for driving while impaired just like drunk driving!!! by Linda
Comment: this bill will not lower accident rates , there is no way to inforce it until after an accident has happened , this is just another way to collect more fines. by tom
Comment: Isn't it sad that the government has to step in and ban something that should be just common sense instead of working on things that are really important? Hands free phone calls should be required but then again it's a matter of common sense. Whatever happened to that? by Sue
Comment: I totally support the ban on texting while driving, most people can't even talk and drive! by Robyn
Comment: Banning only one type of distracted driving will not solve the problem. Either lawmakers need to ban ALL distracted driving or none.
Comment: No cell phone use will driving should be passed!
