Comment: The city of cedar rapids does not own or maintain I380. The state of Iowa does. Shouldn't the money generated from fines be going to the state. The Iowa State Patrol covers I380. I had read at one time that it is illegal for radar cars to park on the shoulders and mediums. They have to shoot radar from off n on ramps. This was in a book titled Speed Traps Across America that appeared in a USA Today article. Keep up the good work and make the CRPD legal, also. by tom
Comment: It cannot ever be used in an emergency situation, therefore it should not be considered an emergency vehicle. by Matt
Comment: I think its a road hazzard and parked illegally. What makes them right to park there and if anyone else does we'd get a ticket. by Lisa
Comment: This is not an emergency vehicle. It is not responding to emergencies. The reason for parking on the interstate is not an emergency and lights are not flashing. They could be a danger to others driving on the interstate. What happens if someone slides into it when the snow flys and gets hurt? There will most likely be a lawsuit because the vehicle is placed there on purpose, not due to an emergency and not due to a breakdown. Who pays then? Taxpayers? by B
Comment: The police should not be above the law whereas intentionally parking a vehicle is not allowed on the interstate. That vehicle is parked, unattended and potentially presents a safety hazard.
Comment: For years Iowa, along with other states, have parked empty State Trooper cars along the side of I-80 to slow speeders down. They are still considered "emergency vehicles" no matter where they are parked. by John
Comment: It might be considered an emergency vehicle but what emergency would cause it to be parked unoccupied, in the emergency lane on the Interstate where it could cause an accident. Then other emergency vehicles would be needed to remove damaged vehicles and possibly damaged lives from the interstate. If it is going to sit on I-380 it should be occupied by emergency personell. by Ellen
Comment: The idea is right, but the method is wrong. Having this moble camera parked along the road is a hazard, reguardless of who owns the vehicle or the reason it's there. Why aren't the police out there catching the speeders? The camera won't catch them all and nor can the police. It should be a constant moniter of I 380 not just a random crack down every now and then. Maybe if there were constant tickets given, it wouldn't be such a problem. by Dana
Comment: They do not use it to respond to emergencies. And unless it has standard police light bar and is used for emergencies, it is just a police vehicle, not an emergency vehicle by C
Comment: That is just plain silly. The emergency lane is there for emergencies. Any other use is irresponsible. by Stephan
Comment: How exactly is taking photos of speeders an emergency? So what if the Jeep can be moved quickly. After three minutes major damage is done when having a heart attack.Sounds like another cry for money. by Will
Comment: It may be legal but it is unsafe, a traffic hazard, and a traffic distraction. Traveling around Minneapolis/St. Paul on the Interstate, any stopped vehiche, espesially an emergency vehicle slows traffic and can even back up traffic for miles. We are supposed to be watching the traffic, not wondering what that jeep is doing there!!!! by Garth
Comment: It is not used for the aid of emergencies, has no support equipment. What are the city's liability if it causes or is involved in a accident? by Jeri
Comment: it is not an emergency vehicle if it does not have law enforcments plates, but on the other hand if you drive the speed limit you don't have anything to worry about, drive the speed limit and ignor the car! by mark
Comment: Police, fire, and other such vehicles are only emergency vehicles if they are enroute to an emergency. by Jes
Comment: Nope! I bet it will cause an accident or two or three. Does it have emergency stamped all over it to prove it is? Does it have flashers on it flashing at all times for people to slow down? I hope you guys check into this a lot further. I don't think it is fair they do this at all. by Paula
Comment: No. PLus I got a ticket from it May 20 around 11:30 am for going 33 in a 25. The 25 was near Wildon school but the speed sigh says "When Children present" There clearly are no children present in the photo andit shows part of the grounds and the drive way. They must have set the jeep there before school and had it set to trap people over 25 no matter what time of day. Its not fair at all.
Comment: Its just more BS by frumpy
Comment: If it is equipt with siron, emergency lights, and comunication radio it would be a yes, If not NO by Mikel
Comment: An emergency vehicle should be considered a first responder. No one else is allowed to park on the side of the road, unless if an emergency or break down.
Comment: its a hazard sitting on the side of road by michelle
