The city of Maquoketa is getting ready start cleaning up after record-breaking water levels.
People started sandbagging last week, to protect their homes and businesses from the nearby swollen river. The waste water treatment plant is still being watched so people don’t have to go without utilities.
At least one woman had to be rescued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s department after water surrounded her home.
The river crested early this morning, around 4 a.m. at 35.2 feet. That’s more than a foot higher than the all-time record.
Just 15 miles northwest of Maquoketa, the community of Canton didn’t catch the same break. CBS 2’s Jamie Oberg shows us the flood damage to homes and businesses there and how the community is working together to clean-up.
